6:51 pm - Tim quotes
|
"Look at this interesting coast line. Delaware! Let's go to Delaware!"
"There's a Disneyland and a Disneyworld? Really?"
"Can we go to time it with a space shuttle launch? And spend three days at plane museums? Why not?"
Unfortunately for him I swore at one point to never set foot in Delaware again. And I'm not spending three days looking at plane museums. And there's been no mention of Canada.

I updated this all over the internet, but forgot to here - so in case there is anyone left who doesn't know, Tim and I are engaged. He proposed last weekend and the wedding will probably be later on this year.

8:31 am - Help!
|
I need ideas for an easy to pull together Halloween costume. The party I'm going to has back-up costumes if you come wearing none (or a lame one) and they aren't pretty.
I have no idea what to be.
I have already gone as a pirate, so that one is out.

2:52 pm - Good news, bad news
|
Good news: I made a bag using this pattern Bad news: Was impatient was putting snaps in,used scissors to make hole, slashed open fingertip. (bag took 3.5 hours including emergency department visit)
Good news: Fingernails stop sharp pointy things! Wasn't too deep. No stitches needed.
Bad news: Cannot use right hand properly. Finger hurts. Can't get finger wet or take tape off for five days until finger has healed. Am known for healing slowly, may need to leave it a week. Used hand and started bleeding again.
Also, bled on carpet.
However, big yay for living within minutes of a public hospital! Yay emergency department!
Need drink now I think.
current mood: uncomfortable

3:34 pm - More pink stuff
|
I usually try to stay away from the shops and not buy anything, but occasionally I'll come across something that I really want and have to have. Like the laptop that I'm typing on right now (pink Sony Vaio).
My latest beautiful thing - this watch. I had to think about it for a couple of days and I'm still not sure I'm cool enough to wearing such a fabulous watch, but now it is mine.

9:09 pm - Worst food ever
|
I'm posting about this, simply because it is partially amusing. I couldn't have just had a worse meal if people had tried.
All day I've been craving sweet and sour chicken, so I managed to talk everyone into ordering chinese food tonight. We get to the restaurant and people decide that it would be good to share our meals when we get home (after we decide to get takeaway). I have no objection, since there's usually heaps of chicken, and I like trying other meals. Since we're sharing, I remind everyone that I'm allergic to seafood.
RB likes to order from this particular shop by using the numbers. Everyone does it. I tell him my order, he asks me the number. I tell him just to tell them what I want. He wants the number and finds it at the menu at the counter.
After ordering (all by numbers, so I don't know dish names), I find out we have ordered - my sweet and sour chicken - a chicken curry - squid something - pork chops and something
Okay. So far I can't eat seafood and I don't like pork. But I figure there's still two chicken dishes on there, I can deal with that. No big deal, just because I'm a bit picky.
We get home. RB starts dishing up the food. I end up with 3 pieces of the sweet and sour chicken on my plate. RB opens his curry (the only other food I want to eat) and a strong smell of coconut whafts out. I hate coconut. It comes from when I was little and had to take coconut flavoured medicine and it made me throw up and feel worse. But the coconut smell isn't too strong, so I decide just to eat it (so I'm not just eating three pieces of chicken and rice). RB shares me out some more sweet and sour chicken from his plate to make up for it.
At this point, I have half as much food as everyone else (or less) but I figure since they're all large guys, they can eat more than me. I ate the chicken curry first, so I'd finish with the yummy sweet and sour chicken taste, not the coconut taste. The chicken curry isn't something I'd ever order to eat myself, but it's not too bad.
I dig into the sweet and sour chicken. Something's wrong. I look at the piece I've bitten into - the meat is brown. Then I remember that on the menu number 39 is "sweet and sour chicken or pork". Since RB ordered by the number and didn't specify chicken, they gave me pork.
I give up and announce that next time, I'm ordering my own food and I'm not sharing. I've thought about it and my list of foods I don't want to eat is seafood, pork, coconut and raw tomatoes. This meal got three out of my four food dislikes.
And I still want my sweet and sour chicken.

2:12 pm - Public holiday adventure
|
We were going to go on a long bushwalk today, but it looked like it was going to rain and in the end we got up too late, so instead we went to the Botanical Gardens and took some photos. I tried to take some arty photos, but my camera battery went flat fairly quickly. I did manage to get a couple of good ones, though, like this one:

12:23 pm - Sad
|
I have a day off today, which is good. I planned to spend an hour going to the post office, getting groceries and going to the doctor's. I went to the post office first to pick up a present for Auggie, then because I had time rushed to get my groceries, then went to the doctors... and sat there for just over half an hour. Without a friendly warning from the receptionists. Oh because I love waiting!
And what I love even more! Is then being told by the doctor within 30 seconds that I have an ear infection because he thought my glands were swollen (no more than usual, I have no idea what he felt) and apparently my ear is full of puss. So, 30 minutes of waiting, 30 seconds of actual doctor time.
I'm hoping that this really is the problem because if not, I'll put up with another week of not being able to hear and having a really annoying ringing noise in my ear for no reason. And I can't actually get back to the doctor in the next week so... I'm not sure how that's going to work out.
I got Auggie a little security jacket (this one here) and I didn't realise that it's actually more like a doggie shirt, not a jacket. The neck is a little snug on him, and the arm holes make him look like he's got skinny arms. So he looks like a buff dog around the shoulders where it's tight but with ultra skinny arms. It is the right length though, which is what I was going on. He seemed excited, but not as excited as when I first gave him the ladybug costume. Nothing beats ladybugs.

5:53 pm - My puppy is so smart
|
I took Augs out for a walk today because he was looking at me with sad eyes because I wouldn't take him out because it had been raining. We went out and he was very happy. I didn't plan on going too far because I thought it might rain again.
We got to the end of the street and he stopped, turned around, looked at some clouds, sniffed the air and took off towards home. He was trying to run as fast as he could and I was slowing him down. I took off his lead when we got into the yard and he bolted off without me. A minute after we got inside it started raining. He's looking pretty pleased with himself right now.

12:00 pm - Rough month. Need sleep.
|
Ahh. I'm having a bit of a rough month, health-wise. This Friday I fell over and hurt my knee and ankle. Saturday morning I felt sick and slept half the day. Last weekend I was sick and in bed for four days. The weekend before that I was coming down with the thing that kept me in bed for the four days.
So... yeah. I haven't really done much at all lately. I managed to go out shopping to get Julz's birthday present one afternoon last week and that wiped me out. I've needed to go out the last two weekends to get Anna a birthday present but haven't managed that yet. Poor girl. She'll have to console herself with some vodka before my fabulous present to her gets there.
I was meant to go and see Mel over the weekend, since she's in town for a limited time only, but felt too crappy to move.
Hopefully next weekend goes better and I get to do something fun.

I'm looking up Chihuahuas, to see if... well I'm not sure. I'm not getting a puppy anytime soon but it's always best to be prepared. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of websites say something like:
Ideal Size: Less than 2.7 kg.
My little guy? Is 4.5kg. He's not fat, he's just big. If there was some kind of chihuahua wrestling competition, he'd win for sure.

8:08 pm - Happy Australia Day
|
Happy Australia Day! Everyone should have pavlova.
I've been sick the past couple of days (and I'm getting bored) but today I managed to stay awake all day! Go me!
I'm also reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods and it is very good.

You know the Bible 77%! Wow! You are truly a student of the Bible! Some of the questions were difficult, but they didn't slow you down! You know the books, the characters, the events . . . Very impressive!
Ultimate Bible Quiz Create MySpace Quizzes
I don't think this quiz was very ultimate. I think it was more a "How much of the Bible shows up in pop culture?" type quiz.

2:14 pm - Ahhhh pets
|
I had to take Aug Dog to the vet this morning for his check-up and vaccinations. I'm always undecided over the vaccinations - the odds of him coming into contact with an infected dog aren't high and he is allergic to the vaccinations. But I don't want him to die from contracting an easily preventable disease.
So eventually guilt wins out and I take him in and now, like today, spend anxious hours monitoring him and watching his breathing and watching him for signs of swelling. Also, feeling guilty, this time as he stretches his leg out that got the needles into it and growls to himself each time it moves.
He is a little bit of a drama queen but I also think he's a bit in pain at the moment. Poor little puppy.
Mum is taking over the dog-watching at the moment so I can take a break and surf online (looking at real estate sites again). Then it's back to feeling guilty and keeping a close eye on the little guy.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20652824-2,00.html - This is a speech that's creating a lot of discussion over here at the moment. It is edited, I'm not sure how the whole thing read (seeing as it's an SBS translation I'm going to assume that it's fairly accurate).
It's the first paragraph that's confusing me - that's my hometown he's mentioning. What I am trying to work out - am I in paradise? Or is he comparing my hometown to hell? It gets criticised a fair bit, but that's a bit harsh, I think.
(More detail here - http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20652625-2,00.html)
The rest of the thing I'm going to ignore, because it's Friday night and I don't want my head to explode just yet.
